whoracle @ 02:50 pm: VisiTerm issue cont.

The first selection (comm slot) doesn't change. Makes me wonder if there is some missing driver or something. The baud rate selection is a bit strange as well, doesn't let you actually select a speed, just 'low' or 'high.' Weird.

Assuming all of the hardware is functional, is there a reason why you have to use that piece of software? I used a few different terminal programs back in my BBS days, and none of them was VisiTerm.

Yeah, I'm trying to give it a go because my 80 col. card sucks and VisiTerm uses the HGR screen and supports lowercase without any VIDEX chip or shift-key mod. Hopefully I'll win the eBay auction for the Crosstalk Terminal and I can quit messing with this title.

Ah, I think I missed that you were on a ][+. That was what I'd originally started on, before I eventually replaced it with a Laser 128EX (compatible with the //c, but with some extra stuff built in). Now I have a IIGS in the closet that I haven't used in years I but I hope still works; otherwise it and the hundreds of floppies are just wasting space.

When I had the ][+ I had the one-wire shift-key mod installed (it was really easy; just run a wire from one of the pins on the keyboard to one of the holes on the game port) and, yes, a really crappy 80 column card. I'm afraid I don't even remember the names of all of the terminal programs I used back then, much less how they rated in relation to each other. The one I finally ended up sticking with was really good; but this was on the Laser, so I don't know how it would have handled your ][+ issues. I also don't remember the name, but I recall it was written so that the menus and interface had a very similar look-and-feel to AppleWorks.

Sorry. This was a whole lot of not very helpful.

I was thinking a PEEK 49664 might pre-initialize the SSC in slot 2 before running VisiTerm, I'll try it and let y'all know.

Well if you need another terminal program let me know and I will see what I can do. Just need the name, may not have a manual, then again you never know.

Take Care

Sheer speculation on my part, but perhaps "local" means "internal modem" rather than serial card connected to external modem. "Low" and "high" speed probably means 300 versus 1200 baud. I remember when 1200 baud was a big deal, and would set you back $600 or so, which was worth a lot more back then... Needless to say, this is during the days I walked to school in the snow every day, uphill both ways...
